Summary
St. Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school—it’s a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s—the very place where they’re most in danger. . . .
Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi— the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever.

My Thoughts
I've seen these books around forever but their covers never really held any appeal for me and I figured classic cliche crappy vampire book. Yes, I judge a book by it's cover, and yes I'm re-evaluating my ways because clearly I'm missing out.
Vampire academy has an original take on vampires that is now one of my favorites. There are actually two different breeds (one good, one bad) AND a halfbreed(guardians). This all makes for some really interesting mythology and provides the author with a lot of writing possibilities.
The plot unravels at a steady speed giving you just enough to keep you flipping pages until three in the morning (yes, that's exactly what I did). on top of that there are secrets and rumors flying from all directions making you question everyone in the book and their intentions.
Rose is my new favorite female protagonist. She has more attitude than anyone knows what to do with and she is nothing if not loyal to her best friend Lissa. Lissa is the yin to Rose's yang the girl couldn't be more different but that is exactly why they're so great together. Then there is Dimitri...you have to read about him, I can't accurately describe his...everything.
I didn't set this down until I was done, and I can't picture anyone doing so, it's definitely a must read. Just make sure you have time to read a whole book before you start it, trust me. Vampire Academy gets 5 out of 5!

  1. I've kept passing this one up too, but someone was raving about it so I added it to my TBR list. I'm glad to see you liked it, that gives me hope. Now if I can just fit it in somewhere.

  2. Awesome, I'm glad you had fun with this one. I really enjoyed it too. Just need to get through my (thankfully) dwindling library pile so I can get to my copy of Frostbite soon.
