Summary
Rebecca couldn't feel more out of place in New Orleans. She's staying in a creepy house with her aunt, who reads tarot cards. And at the snooty prep school, a pack of filthy-rich girls treat Rebecca like she's invisible. Only gorgeous, unavailable Anton Grey gives Rebecca the time of day, but she wonders if he's got a hidden agenda. Then one night, in Lafayette Cemetery, Rebecca makes a friend: sweet, mysterious Lisette. There's just one catch.
Lisette is a ghost. A ghost with a deep, dark secret, and a serious score to settle.
As Rebecca is drawn deeper into a web of curses and cryptic customs, she uncovers startling truths about her own history. Will Rebecca be able to right the wrongs of the past, or has everything been ruined beyond repair?

My Thoughts
This book killed me with it's pace. I'd pick it up, read, set it down, find something to do, convince myself to see it through, pick it back up, then repeat the previous process. I took me 3 full days to read this short book. I swear I had the whole thing figured out by the halfway point so why did it take so long to play out. The idea of this book was a good one, it has a great little mystery but there is way too much filler and not enough substance. Not to mention the lead character is mopy, and totally boring in every sense of the word. The voice she took up in mind was very monotone. Overall Ruined gets 2 stars simply because I finished it, Otherwise it would have scored a one but I felt the need to end it. I also felt the need to write this review even though I didn't want to, so I could warn any would-be readers. I'm not recommending this one. Damn pretty covers!

  1. That doesn't sound good, I think I'll skip this one. I'm a bit worried now though, because I was planning on reading her new novel next month.

  2. LOL! Damn pretty covers indeed. I've read many a stupid book because of a pretty cover and yet, I still never learn! I already own this one, sadly, so I'll probably try it.

  4. So sad to hear this! I actually liked this book. I loved the whole New Orleans setting and thought the descriptions were great. The crazy aunt character was a bit much though...
