Summary
It's winter break at St. Vladimir's, but Rose is feeling anything but festive. A massive Strigoi attack has put the school on high alert, and now the Academy's crawling with Guardians—including Rose's hard-hitting mother, Janine Hathaway. And if hand-to-hand combat with her mom wasn't bad enough, Rose's tutor Dimitri has his eye on someone else, her friend Mason's got a huge crush on her, and Rose keeps getting stuck in Lissa's head while she's making out with her boyfriend, Christian! The Strigoi are closing in, and the Academy's not taking any risks… This year, St. Vlad's annual holiday ski trip is mandatory.

But the glittering winter landscape and the posh Idaho resort only create the illusion of safety. When three friends run away in an offensive move against the deadly Strigoi, Rose must join forces with Christian to rescue them. But heroism rarely comes without a price…

 My Thoughts
I am in love with this series and I'm wishing I bought them all at once. The second installment in the Vampire Academy series starts off with a bang and ends with a bigger one, it was more emotional not only because you become more invested in the characters but also because so much happens. There is also the introduction of a new character and I'm hoping he sticks around. He fits my love of the mysterious bad boy to a tee so he immediately found a place close to my heart.  I found the conflict in this book was better developed and more intriguing than in Vampire Academy.  The pace wasn't quite as steady as it was in  Vampire Academy, it had a bit of lag time in the middle but Mead's writing still keeps your attention in the slower moments.
Everyone loves Dimitri and Rose, I do too, but I really enjoy the relationship between Rose and her best friend Lissa's boyfriend Christian. There is some jealousy and animosity between the two because they have to share Lissa's attention, but the give and take of insults and sarcasm is fun to read. I found myself looking forward to their scenes almost as much as Rose and Dimitri's. The funny thing is if it wasn't for Lissa I bet they would be the best of friends.
Frostbite was an wicked follow up to an awesome start, Vampire Academy is working it's way to the top of my most loved series list. 5 out of 5.

  1. I'm a VA junkie. I think one of the things that makes the stories so involving is the way Mead makes all the relationships matter - like you pointed out with the Christian/Rose one. Just wait until you read more...with every book, my admiration for Mead's plotting skills increased. SO good!
