My Thoughts
Soulstice seriousle ups the ante from The Devouring, it's not very often I like the second book in a series more than the first but in this case it is absolutely true. The plot became much more intricate, introducing new characters and secrets while expanding and deepening the ones you already know.
Reggie remains her strong willed and ass kicking self, enduring things I would never even imagine attempting. Always fighting for the people she care about and taking a beating on the way. Aaron manages to work up a little more courage, less talk and more action. And Quinn...well I'll just let you read and figure that one out on your own.
The absolute best thing about these books is the myth building and imagery. The fearscapes Holt creates remind me of the movie Silent Hill. These alternate realities where fear reins and everything from people with no faces, shrieking porcelain dolls to a never ending maze of identical stalks of corn scare the crap out of you. I don't know about you but possession freak me right out, and the myth building in Soulstice makes it too believable, Holt even adds a scientific explanation not relying solely on the excuse of "Hey, it's paranormal. Anything can happen, right?" If you read The Devouring and liked it, read on friends, Soulstice is even better. 5 out of 5.

I read & reviewed the first book. It is most definitely creepy. I regret reading the first book before i went to bed! Totally creeped me out that night..Ended up sleeping with the Tv on. But i should probably pick up this one! Awesome review.

Simon Holt dishes out another horror, nightmare filled novel, as Reggie must battle the Vours not for her brother this time, not even just for herself, but for everyone as she learns just how formidable and organized the Vours are. Where the first book is centered around the Winter Solstice, Soulstice is centered around the Summer Solstice, a day when the line between our world and the Vours is at its lowest, and the Vours are at their most powerful.
