Summary
Cheerleader Isobel Lanley is horrified when she is paired with Varen Nethers for an English project, which is due—so unfair—on the day of the rival game. Cold and aloof, sardonic and sharp-tongued, Varen makes it clear he’d rather not have anything to do with her either. But when Isobel discovers strange writing in his journal, she can’t help but give this enigmatic boy with the piercing eyes another look.
Soon, Isobel finds herself making excuses to be with Varen. Steadily pulled away from her friends and her possessive boyfriend, Isobel ventures deeper and deeper into the dream world Varen has created through the pages of his notebook, a realm where the terrifying stories of Edgar Allan Poe come to life.
As her world begins to unravel around her, Isobel discovers that dreams, like words, hold more power than she ever imagined, and that the most frightening realities are those of the mind. Now she must find a way to reach Varen before he is consumed by the shadows of his own nightmares.

My Thoughts
Nevermore was not at all what I expected. First I though Varen would be chasing Isobel around trying to get close to her and prove he's worthy. So not the case. It was the other way around, and I totally dug it. Why shouldn't the cheerleader fall in love with the goth? It's so wrong it's absolutely right.
Isobel is a fun character. She's got a lot of spunk. Despite Varen giving her the cold shoulder and showing total lack of interest she doesn't give up. Then I realized she applies this to every aspect of her life, she cannot be deterred. She goes after what she wants and fights for every bit of it. She does have a few ditzy cheerleader moments but instead of them irritating me it was endearing.
Varen is a total enigma, you can't stop reading because you just want to know, What is this guys deal anyway? I really can't say much more about him without giving anything away, because like i said ENIGMA.
The best supporting characters were Gwen, and Isobel's brother Danny. They both cracked me up. Gwen is a total oddball, I need to find a friend like this. Danny is your average little brother but really witty.
It was especially awesome how she wove the facts of Poe's life, death and his work into her book making it become one really cool story and theory about Poe's mysterious death. The intro is even written from his POV...nifty huh? Overall, great story dying for the sequel. 4 out of 5!

FYI this book totally goes with my blog theme, awesome!!

  2. Oooo! It does match your blog. I've had this one on my TBR list for awhile but my local library and bookstores don't carry it and I have this weird thing about ordering books online and how long they take to get to me. Weird, I know. Grrr I may just have to give in.
