My Thoughts
There is always a high expectation for book number two in a series, especially if you fall head over heels for book one. Which I absolutely did. Shade became one of my absolute favorite books and put Jeri Smith-Ready at the top of my awesome authors list. Shift blew my expectations out. Of. The. Water.
Shift is Shade kicked up a few hundred notches everything got more intense. The love triangle, the mystery surrounding the shift, aura's parentage...EVERYTHING. Seriously I would read this book just for the prom segment, SO much happens.
Jeri's writing is so honest and heartfelt. From dealing with the characters grief to the sexual aspects, even the humor of a teenager. It all comes out raw and real. Every character in the book has their own issues and emotions they're trying to overcome or confront, and you care about each of their struggles even if they aren't a main character. She has way of making you love and care about everyone. They all have such a strong presence. Like Megan and Mickey for example, their important but not forerunners in the story. That did not keep my heart from breaking when Megan finally voiced the battle going on inside her, concerning Mickey and coping with Logan's death. Everyone had their own moment where they put me through some emotional somersaults.
Anyway if I keep going secrets will be spilled and I'll probably just gush out every plot development and spoil the entire book. If you haven't read Shade, go do it. Then get Shift and bask in all it's glory because I did and I know I'll be doing it again...sometime soon. On a side note keep some tissues handy. I certainly needed them. 5 out of 5 obviously.
