Summary
Ashfall is the story of Alex, a teenage boy left alone for the weekend while his parents visit relatives. When the Yellowstone supervolcano erupts unexpectedly, Alex is determined to reach his parents. He must travel over a hundred miles in a landscape transformed by a foot of ash and the destruction of every modern convenience that he has ever known, and through a new world in which disaster has brought out both the best and worst in people desperate for food, water, and warmth. With a combination of nonstop action, a little romance, and very real science, this is a story that is difficult to stop reading and even more difficult to forget.
My Thoughts
Ashfall is a a gritty story of survival and hope. While writing this review i quite literally sat here with my head in my hands trying to think of a way to convey the emotional rollercoaster it has put me through. How Alex survives this entire ordeal is beyond me, i'm almost completely sure i would have given up where he pressed on. An admirable character to say the least. Darla is one of the coolest female characters i've read, to steal a quote from the author she has "maguyver" moments. There girl is pretty handy to have around and Alex's survival certainly depended on it. This book really tugged at my heart strings, the author really tries to throw you into Alex's shoes and i felt it all. There was happiness, sadness, confusion, love, hope and a fierce determination. The startling reality of how fast the world can change was unsettling. How fast and how much people you know change when they feel it's every man for them self. I was captivated by this book from the start and i think everyone should read it. This book definitly gets 5 out of 5.

ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear you liked this one! I live about an hour and a half from the Yellowstone Caldera (which means I'm in the immediate/instant death zone if it decides to blow) and have spent tons of time in the park. I LOVE it! I'm so interested to see what he does with this book!
